Making the cookies
prepare the cookie dough
Start by preheating your oven to 350-degrees F
Blend the butter and sugar in a mixer until smooth – I highly recommend investing in a KitchenAid mixer if you have a love for baking. I’ve had mine for YEARS!
Beat in your egg until combined; be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl as you go
Slowly incorporate the vanilla and almond extract and orange zest
Carefully incorporate the flour and salt on low speed so it doesn’t fly everywhere
Scrape your bowl to ensure the dough is mixed in entirely
baking the cookies
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and begin to scoop dough with a cookie scooper
Place dough about 2 – 3-inches apart so they have room to spread when baking
Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes, just until your dutch sand tart cookies have turned golden around the edges and still slightly gooey in the middle (NOTE: every oven is different, but I found my perfect cook time to be 13 minutes)
Topping the orange almond cookies
Next up is the best part - topping your Orange Almond Cookies! I melted milk chocolate chips in the microwave and stirred in 15-second increments until they were fully melted. Then, I filled a plastic pastry bag with the melted chocolate and drizzled it over the cookies in a fun squiggle design.
After that, I filled a sandwich bag with toasted almonds and crushed them up. Once they were semi-broken up, I sprinkled them on top of the chocolate drizzle before it set up so they stick!
garnish & enjoy!
Once you finish topping your Orange Almond Cookies, lay them out until the chocolate fully sets. After that, you can serve them up on a pretty plate and top with an orange twist for some extra color!
Well, there ya have it —zippy, Orange Almond Cookies! I hope you love this recipe as much as I do. For the full recipe, keep on scrolling.
